Winter Golf
Upcoming dates to remember!

As we head into the winter months, we want to remind you of some of our winter policies and dates to look out for.
  • October 1-March 31 - We are now on the winter month schedule.  Weekday rates are extended Monday through Friday.
  • November 1 - City Park closes for renovations.
  • November 13 - Overland will be moving to matts only on the driving range, weather permitting.
  • November 15 - Tee markers will be removed from the course.  You may hit wherever you want on the tee box.  This helps prevent wear and tear of the teeing ground in one area.
  • November 15 -  Water coolers will be removed from the golf course.  Leaving them out freezes and then damages the coolers.  Water will be provided in the clubhouse before and after you play and on the turn.
  • November 19 - Evergreen golf course last play day, weather permitting.  They will then close for the season. The Evergreen cart reward on your loyalty card may be used at any other Denver Course until spring.
  • November 23rd - Thanksgiving Day - Courses are open, weather permitting, and will close by 2 pm so our staff members can enjoy the holiday with their families.
  • Frost Delays - Please check with the course for early morning tee times before you leave the house.  Frost delays occur frequently this time of year so just check and make sure so you don't have to sit at the golf course longer than you want to.  You can also go to www.cityofdenvergolf.com homepage and check the live Twitter feed for updates.

City Park Redesign Update - Construction Begins November 1st
As many of you are aware, our neighborhood course closed on November 1st so we can start on an exciting renovation that will integrate stormwater detention and improve our facilities. Over the next few weeks, you’ll notice changes at City Park Golf Course as we prepare for construction.
This construction prep includes:
  • The installation of safety awareness signs
  • Installation of the perimeter and tree protection fences
  • Moving office trailers and equipment to the site
All construction operations will comply with the City’s working hour requirements of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends. The Saunders Construction team will be required to undergo a project-specific site and safety orientation. In addition, their noise, dust control and erosion control plans will minimize noise and dust impacts to neighboring properties, and the planned delivery and haul routes will minimize disruption to the neighborhood.

Saunders Construction is dedicated to being good neighbors; if you have any concerns during construction, please contact them at:

Regular construction updates will be posted on the project website at www.CPGCredesign.org. In addition, you can sign up for email updates through the website to ensure you have the most up to date information on the construction process.

About Our Trees:
Trees have been a driving force of the CPGC design and the team has taken great care to minimize the impact to trees while balancing golf playability with a need to provide greater flood protection to thousands of homes downstream.

All living and healthy perimeter trees (except for 5 at the entrance) will remain, as will several large historic groves of trees internal to the site.

Approximately 70% of existing course trees will be preserved, and with all the new trees being planted onsite there will be a net gain of roughly 500 trees. Of the trees to be removed at the golf course, approximately 19% are in poor/very poor condition or dead. Of the good and fair rated trees to be removed, approximately 55% of them are younger trees with diameters of less than 12 inches. Final numbers are yet to be determined based on changing tree conditions and the tree scans/surveys that are being completed.

Contest Winners:
In August, we held a contest for a team to play the final and first round at City Park Golf Course. We look forward to welcoming our contest winners onto the course on November 4th to play the existing course’s final round. These contest winners will also be playing the first round on the new 18-hole Parkland style course when we reopen in 2019. Congratulations to our contest winners, Marjorie Dolson, Jay Kurtz, Frank Chiarelli and Gary Pedigo.

The
Leaves!
By Colin Murphy
Superintendent, Overland Park

It’s Autumn.  Now what to do with all those leaves.
The first thoughts of fallen leaves are to remove them from your lawn for aesthetic reasons.  When, in fact, leaving them on the ground is actually more beneficial for your lawn.  The blanket of leaves helps hold in moisture and also provides an insulation layer from the cold for the lawn.  Removing or mulching the leaves in the early spring is suggested.  If removing, instead of putting them into the trash or blowing them into the street, compost them in your  garden.
