  • Overland Park First Tee Course - Preliminary construction has started for the newest First Tee Course to go in at Overland.  Crews are currently working on the irrigation and they have tilled the site to begin moving earth around.  This project will include moving the first tee box, rerouting hole #1 (which will be closer to it's original layout) and building a new green on number one. Take a look look at the conceptual drawing here.
  • Wellshire Irrigation Renovation - Wellshire will start renovations on their irrigation system.  This improvement will result in increased water savings, improved overall turf conditions, and decreased wash out on some holes near the #10 pond which will be drained.  Work on this project will begin right after Labor Day.

City Park Golf Course Redesign Contract Approved by Council
DENVER – August 25, 2017 –  On Monday, August 14, Denver City Council approved the design/build contract of Saunders Construction, iConGolf Studio with Hale Irwin Golf Design, and clubhouse architect Johnson Nathan Strohe as the team to lead the redesign of City Park Golf Course.

The City has finalized the contract with the Saunders team and has issued them a Notice to Proceed. The design/build team can now begin some on-site information gathering and surveying activity at City Park Golf Course to inform the team’s future work.

In the coming weeks, the City will begin working with the City Park Golf Course Redesign Workgroup to refine the initial project design. The residents, community leaders, and golfers on the Workgroup were instrumental in developing the guidelines that shaped the design. A more detailed design will be shared with the broader community early this fall.
City Park will remain open until November 2017 and reopen in 2019.

Winds of Change at Wellshire!
By Scott Ellis
Superintendent, Wellshire
This fall begins an exciting time in Denver Golf with the first of many major projects commencing, starting at Wellshire.
Denver Golf has signed a deal with Denver Water to remove Wellshire Golf Course as a customer of the Highline Canal. With the age and deterioration of the canal, it has become an inefficient way to deliver water to users such as Wellshire. We will now have our water fed directly from Denver Water to our pumping station. This will eliminate the need for Skeel Reservoir and the retention pond bisecting 10 fairway. Our plan is to renovate #10 back to Donald Ross’s original design where the fairway continues through the valley.
In accordance with Denver Water efficiency guidelines, Wellshire will be installing a state of the art irrigation system. Piping will be almost exclusively HDPE, rather than the traditional PVC. Advantages to this type of irrigation system start with the fact that PVC systems are joined using either mechanical or glue fittings. These joints are inherently the weak link and are the sites of most problems. HDPE systems are fused together using heat or electricity to create a joint as strong as the pipe itself. HDPE is also a 100% recyclable material, whereas PVC is being criticized for its negative environmental impact. Irrigation heads and computerized central control will be top of the line allowing for multitudes of
adjustment and control. The pump station will be replaced to match the irrigation system and save on energy consumption.
Please excuse our disruption during this project. We will keep everyone informed of upcoming impacts to the course as well as progress of the construction. Keep track of Wellshire Golf Course on Facebook, Twitter and online at www.cityofdenvergolf.com for up to date information.
